Expert Roof Restoration for Christchurch Homes
Your roof takes a beating from Canterbury’s climate – intense UV exposure, driving rain, strong winds, and those bitter southerlies. Over time, tiles and metal roofing fade, deteriorate, and become vulnerable to leaks.
I specialise in residential and commercial roof painting and restoration across Christchurch and surrounding areas including Selwyn, Waimakariri, and Banks Peninsula.

Why Trust Us With Your Roof
Local Knowledge, Proven Results
I’ve been painting Canterbury roofs for over 35 years. From post-earthquake repairs to coastal properties in Sumner and New Brighton, to challenging hillside homes in Cashmere and the Port Hills, I’ve worked across every Christchurch suburb. That’s decades of understanding what works and what lasts in our climate.
Quality Materials for Harsh Conditions
I only use premium roof coatings from trusted brands like Roofrite, Resene, Dulux, and Wattyl – formulated specifically to withstand New Zealand’s intense UV and weather conditions.
Comprehensive Preparation
A quality roof paint job starts with proper prep. I waterblast thoroughly, repair all damage, treat moss and lichen, and ensure perfect adhesion for a finish that lasts 10-15 years.
Fully Insured & Safety-Focused
Safety is non-negotiable when working at heights. I’m advanced rope access certified and fully insured, following strict safety protocols on every job. Whether it’s a standard roof or a challenging steep pitch accessed by rope, every project is completed to New Zealand height safety standards.
Roof Types I Work With
Concrete Tiles
Common in Christchurch homes, concrete tiles become porous over time. Professional coating restores their waterproofing and appearance.
Terracotta & Clay Tiles
Heritage and character homes in historic suburbs like Merivale or Fendalton often feature these tiles. I carefully restore them while preserving their traditional look.
Coloursteel & Metal Roofing
Metal roofs need specialist coatings to prevent rust and fading. I use products specifically designed for metal surfaces.
Decramastic Tiles
These steel-based tiles benefit from recoating to prevent rust and restore their protective layer.

STRAIGHT TALK ON PRICE
How much does roof painting cost?
I’ll be straight with you – roof painting prices in New Zealand are all over the show. You’ll get some guys quoting “too good to be true” prices and others who seem like they’re charging for a gold-plated roof.
I keep it simple. I price based on a square metre rate, which usually lands between $25 and $40 per m2.
Why the range?
It comes down to what the job actually involves:
- The Pitch & Profile: A steep roof or a complex tile pattern takes more time and gear than a flat, corrugated iron one.
- The Prep: If your roof is just faded, it’s a standard job. If it’s peeling, rusty, or moss-covered, I spend a lot more time on the prep and specialty primers to make sure the finish actually lasts.
The "No-Hassle" Estimate
You don’t need to wait around for me to show up just to get a ballpark figure. I use satellite tools to measure your roof’s size and pitch from my desk.
I can usually send you an initial estimate within 24 hours. If that looks good to you, I’ll swing by for a quick site visit to check the condition of the iron or tiles and give you a firm, final quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does roof painting last in Christchurch?
With quality products and proper application, expect 10-15 years. Canterbury’s climate is demanding, so using premium coatings makes a real difference.
What's the best time of year to paint a roof in Christchurch?
Spring through autumn (October-April) offers the most reliable weather. We need dry conditions for proper curing, though we can often work in winter during settled periods.
Will roof painting fix leaks?
Roof painting provides a waterproof barrier, but existing leaks need proper repair first. We identify and fix these issues before coating.
What roof paint products do you use?
For roof painting, I primarily use Roofrite on residential properties. After working with all the major premium roof paint brands over the years, I’ve found Roofrite delivers the best results for Christchurch conditions—it offers excellent durability, weather resistance, and long-lasting protection against our harsh UV and coastal environment.
That said, I’m experienced with all major brands including Resene, Dulux, and Wattyl. If you have a specific product preference or requirement, I’m happy to work with your choice.
The most important factor isn’t just the brand – it’s proper surface preparation, correct application technique, and using a quality coating suited to your specific roof type.
Is it better to paint my roof or just replace the iron/tiles entirely?
If your roof is structurally sound but looks weathered or has minor surface rust, painting is a much smarter investment. A professional restoration and coating usually costs a fraction of a full replacement and can extend the life of your roof by another 10–15 years. I’ll always give you an honest assessment if I think the roof is past the point of painting.
Can you help me choose the right color?
Absolutely. Choosing a color can be overwhelming, especially with the Christchurch sun changing how shades look throughout the day. I can provide advice on what’s trending (like Grey Friars or Ironsand) and what will best suit the era of your home. We can also look at “cool-roof” options that help reflect heat during our hot Canterbury summers.
Will the paint spray get on my garden, cars, or windows?
Not on my watch. Preparation isn’t just about the roof; it’s about protecting your property. I use high-quality drop cloths and masking to cover your joinery, gardens, and outdoor furniture. I also keep a close eye on the wind – if it’s too gusty for a clean spray application, I’ll hold off until the conditions are right to ensure zero overspray.
